TEMPORARY INSTRUCTION PERMIT

Effective August 1st, Students will no longer require a temporary instruction permit(TIP) to begin the classroom portion of Driver's Education.

 

However, students must must be in posession of the TIP card in order to take the written exam and to complete the 8 hours of behind the wheel training.

Below you'll find the documents required to obtain a TIP card:

 

 

 

All students enrolled in drivers education must present a TIP to the enrolled drivers
 
education provider.  The TIP can only be obtained from the local Office of Motor Vehicles.
 
In addition, the student must have the TIP in their possession to take the written test, when
 
operating a motor vehicle during the behind the wheel portion of instruction and when
 
accompanied by a licensed drivers education instructor or during the administration of a road
 
skills test.Upon completion of drivers education, the TIP will be surrendered to Office of Motor
 
Vehicles (OMV) along with proof of completion of the driver’s education course and any other
 
necessary documents. There is no additional cost to convert from the TIP to a Learner’s Permit.
 
 
Proof of identification is required. All minors must present the following identification:
 
a. An Original or State Certified birth certificate
 
b.Verification of your Social Security number is required.
 
c. High School Attendance Form is required-student must be at least in the 8th grade
 
d. A custodial parent or legal guardian must sign the application.The parent or legal guardian
 
must present identification and the legal guardian must also present legal documentation
 
verifying the guardianship.
