What's Next For Teenage Students...

After successful completion of the 30 hours of classroom instruction and the 8 hours of Behind the Wheel instruction*, the student will receive an email containing his/her passed digital test results and a Certificate of Successful Completion. ALL envelopes must remain sealed prior to bringing to Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV). There is NO exception to this rule, as it has been mandated by the State of Louisiana. Below you will find the 3 stages of the Louisiana Graduated Driver’s License Program:

Stage #1: Learner’s Permit

If the student is under seventeen years of age, the student will be issued a learner’s permit. The student will need to bring his/her completion certificate, (please note: the white copy will go to the OMV, the yellow copy is for your personal records**) email with digital test results, school attendance letter and two forms of identification. The student will hold the permit for at least 6 months and cannot move to the next stage, Intermediate License, until 16 years of age. While driving with a Learner’s Permit, the student must be accompanied by a licensed parent, guardian, adult at the age of 21 or older, or licensed sibling at least age 18 or older. The student must also complete at least 50 hours of supervised driving, 15 of those hours at night.

Stage #2: Intermediate License

Must have completed Stage #1. The student must be 16 years age and held the learner’s permit for at least 6 months. The student must take a road skills driving test with Victor Manning Driving School and obtain a sealed envelope containing his/her driving test score. The student will then surrender the sealed envelope, a school attendance letter and two forms of identification to OMV to be issued an Intermediate License. While driving with an Intermediate License, the student is prohibited from driving between 11p.m. and 5a.m., unless accompanied by a licensed parent, guardian, adult at least age 21 or older, or licensed sibling at least age 18 or older. The Intermediate License must be maintained until the student is 17 years of age.

Stage #3: Full License

Must have completed stages # 1 and #2 OR
The student must be 17 years of age at the time of application for a full license.

If the student is 17 years of age at the time of the classroom portion and behind the wheel completion, the student may obtain a full license.
